Enjoying the blooming heather of the Venlo Groote Heide

Summer on the Groote Heide means enjoying the beautiful purple heathlands. In the Venlo nature reserve, three different types of heather can be found, including the rare red cross-leaved heath, which is appearing in more and more places! The blooming and flowering period of heather species is highly dependent on the weather conditions in spring and summer.

Heather is also inseparably connected with wildlife for the pollination of heather. To preserve the heather, Het Limburgs Landschap has implemented various management measures in recent years.
