What is a DigiD and how do I apply for it?

DigiD stands for Digital Identity. A DigiD is an online account that allows you to log in to government and healthcare websites. The DigiD is linked to your citizen service number. Organizations can identify who you are based on this account.

You can apply for a DigiD here. Please note that you need a Citizen Service Number for this. You can obtain this by registering with the municipality where you live. For more information, read: How do I register with the municipality?

Once you have applied for your DigiD, you will receive an activation code via regular mail. This code is sent to the address where you are registered and you should receive it within 3 working days. You can activate and use your DigiD with the activation code.
