Koffieschenkerij Genuujerie

Sint Urbanusweg 77

Coffeehouse Genuujerie opened in 2007 and is located in a former farm, situated just behind the famous chapel of Genuuje (dating back to the year 1631), and right on the Pieterpad route. The current chapel was built in 1631, but the veneration of Mary in Genooy dates back to 1423 when a convent (Mariendael) was founded there. Over the years, the chapel, as part of the convent, withstood the pressures of the Reformation. After the last nuns donated the chapel to the Saint Martinus parish in 1829, it remained almost in the same state until the early 20th century. In 1917, the renowned architect Pierre Cuypers thoroughly restored the chapel and expanded it with an ambulatory, side aisles, and a separate cross chapel.
