What does studying cost?

Studying costs money, that's logical. But how much approximately, that's the question. Invenlo made the following monthly estimate: 

  • Tuition fees - approximately €2,601 per year ≈ €215 p/m
  • Rent - approximately €511 p/m
  • Groceries + daily expenses - approximately €270 p/m (average in the Netherlands for students)
  • Study books & supplies - approximately €50 p/m
  • Health insurance - approximately €150 p/m :
  • Leisure / going out / sports - approximately €230  p/m
  • Clothing & shoes - approximately €60 p/m
  • Phone / internet / subscriptions - approximately €55 p/m
     

Total costs per month: 1530 euros.
 

This is an indication, but you can certainly save on many things. By shopping more cheaply, going out less, or smartly switching health insurance, you can save tens of euros per month.

Besides expenses, as a student, you also have income. For instance, you are entitled to student financing (note: this is a loan) and possibly an additional grant. Additionally, you can also take a part-time job to earn some money.
