Meer detailsIn a respectable list blog about ice cream in Venlo, Clevers Arcen must certainly not be missing! What started very small in 1985 across the Maas in Grubbenvorst has grown by 2025 into an artisanal ice cream maker with 14 locations, including one in picturesque Arcen. So, hop on your bike, take the car, use the bicycle ferry, and treat yourself to a delicious ice cream from Clevers!

Ice, ice, baby! The ice creams in this blog are so unique, you have to try them. Food blogger Cyrille Berger from @foodies_x_friends went out for us and listed all the special ice creams for you. From unique textures to crazy flavors, I found them out for you. Such as: cotton candy ice cream and spaghetti ice cream. Or surprising foreign ice creams, such as: Italian Zuppa Inglese or Japanese Mochi ice cream.

Pasta lovers alert! Gluten allergy? No problem! This spaghetti ice cream, with its texture, resembles real spaghetti! With 'spaghetti' strands of vanilla ice cream, red strawberry sauce, and instead of meatballs, strawberries. At Gelateria Gino, I was truly surprised. They have even more remarkable ice cream creations, such as pizza, lasagna, steak & omelet! Not just an ice cream parlor but a true ice cream restaurant! For four generations, Gino's family has been passing down the craft of making Italian ice cream.

Of course, we in Venlo are known for the Limburg pies! But have you ever tried a pie ice cream? This crumble pie ice cream is delightfully sweet and has small pieces of cake/crumble in it! You can score it at IJssalon Dutch Homemade. As the name suggests, in addition to various flavors of scoop ice cream, you can also find all sorts of delicious macarons here. An ICE CREAM & Macaron party there!

It doesn't have to be a fair to score this cotton candy! At Choco Venlo, you can definitely find this cotton candy ice cream. Bright yellow and bright blue mixed in a cool swirl; this ice cream is just a fairground attraction in itself. And the taste? No-brainer: as sweet as sugar! My tip: besides the delicious Leonidas chocolate, Choco Venlo has more sweet surprises, such as marshmallow ice cream and soon jellyCreations!

Zuppa Inglese, uhm, English soup? I may be a foodie, but I wasn't familiar with this Italian phenomenon. Zuppa stands for dipping in liquid – this is not a soup but an inspiration from the English trifle. Zuppa Inglese is an Italian dessert made of custard and sponge cake soaked in liqueur. At IJsco Fantastico, they have made a special ice cream from it. To me, it tastes like a combination of advocaat, jam, and pieces of fruit. Try it yourself!

Go for a completely different ice cream experience and immerse yourself in the Japanese ice cream culture! At Izumi, you can wonderfully end your sushi dinner with these special Japanese ice creams. Discover an impressive texture, such as mochi ice cream: a ball of sticky rice with a creamy core of, for example, vanilla ice cream, passion fruit ice cream, or even the matcha variant. Itadakimasu!

Save the best for last… Deluxe variant - not handheld but in a champagne glass - Scroppino! You have this ‘dessert’ as a dessert or just between courses. A scroppino is actually intended as an intermediate course; it neutralizes your taste. It is actually not a dessert but a cocktail, made from sorbet ice cream, vodka, and prosecco. And for the ultimate Italian flavor: with limoncello. That's how I tasted it at Bij de Buren – too delicious! Cheers!
