Lisa Huijs

Lisa has always been involved with clubs. Since 2017, she has found a new way to celebrate carnival, namely as a singer with the band Greun Graas! “Now I can contribute something new for the future.”

Venlo celebrates Carnival

Lisa started singing when she met a little friend at Jocus Toekôms. Together they had the idea to start a band. “We can always try, right?” And so they really did. In 2017, the band took off and over time six more members joined. This group became a clique and grew into a real music band.

Initially, Greun Graas rehearsed in the Ald Weishoès. Now they have moved to Klup 77 in Venlo. During these rehearsals, the band focuses on the real old Venlo carnival songs. They find it important to keep singing these songs to keep them alive. The band gives the songs a new twist and “everyone joins in immediately!” They change the music from a sjoenkel song to an up-tempo hit! Lisa's favorite song is ‘Gekke Minse’, but she says that ultimately the most important thing is that it resonates with people.

From Thursday to Sunday, the band has various performances planned. This means non-stop enjoyment. The biggest event they have ahead is really the Boètezitting. Of course, they also perform in small intimate cafés. “Often the intimate performances are just very fun,” says Lisa.

If we watch the videos from that moment now, we still think: WOW!

Her most beautiful memory is when she was allowed to go on stage for the first time, together with Greun Graas. This was at Jocus Toekôms during the family session. This association literally and figuratively gave the band the stage, and they are very grateful for that. Another event they will never forget is 11/11. “When we watch the videos of that moment now, we still think: WOW!” She looks forward to seeing everyone again and chatting with everyone. “Somehow it's so easy to have a chat with everyone during the carnival.” Lisa can't wait for the moment when she has a full agenda again and almost has to rush to make it to the next performance. She can enjoy this hustle and bustle because it only confirms that people want to see the band. “When we stand with the band at the Town Hall on the Picardie, I just think: this is really the pinnacle of my carnival!”
