Do I need additional insurance?
Everyone who lives or works in the Netherlands is legally required to have a basic health insurance. This basic insurance covers standard care such as from a general practitioner, hospital, or pharmacy. Additionally, everyone can (voluntarily) take out supplementary insurance for costs not covered by the basic package.
Supplementary insurance?
If you expect high healthcare costs, for instance because you have poor dental health, it might be wise to take out supplementary insurance. Whether supplementary insurance is necessary depends on the care you expect to need, the costs that any supplementary insurance entails, and the reimbursements this supplementary insurance offers. Are the costs of the supplementary insurance lower than the reimbursements you expect to receive? Then supplementary insurance is interesting for you.
Health insurance for non-Dutch residents
If you are coming to work here as a non-Dutch resident, you also need a Dutch health insurance. You are required to take out such health insurance even if you already have health insurance in your country of origin. You can take out insurance with any Dutch health insurer, including HollandZorg. In addition to the mandatory basic insurance, you can also take out supplementary insurance, which provides you with extra reimbursements.
