
What is healthcare allowance and am I entitled to it?
Healthcare allowance is a financial contribution from the Dutch government for Dutch citizens with Dutch health insurance. It is a support to help finance healthcare costs. Not everyone is eligible for a healthcare allowance. This depends on your income. The allowance is intended for people who have difficulty making ends meet without this support.
You are entitled to healthcare allowance if you:
- Have Dutch, European nationality, or a residence permit type I, II, or III. (If your residence permit has expired, you are only entitled if you have applied for an extension of your residence permit in time or already received healthcare allowance when your residence permit was still valid.)
- Have a Dutch health insurance (for more information about insurances click here)
- Are 18 years or older
- Your income must not be too high:
- Not higher than €28,720 per year.
- Allowance partner: combined income must not be higher than €35,996 per year. - Your assets must not be too high:
- Not higher than €113,415 per year
- Allowance partner: combined assets must not be higher than €143,415
