Vreewater
Het Vreewater is the small-scale semi-open landscape east of Velden near the German border. Its character is formed by a mix of moist hayfields, groves, hedgerows, and ponds. It serves as the ecological link between the Ravenvennen and Zwart Water. The area is important for amphibians and reptiles with no fewer than 15 species. Bird species of the small-scale landscape, such as the yellowhammer and the stonechat, also feel at home there. It is intersected by a number of unpaved narrow roads that are freely accessible.

Surrounding it is a forest interspersed with small but valuable grasslands. This forms a beautiful transition to the Vreewater. On the west side, there are a few small heathlands that can be explored excellently thanks to two walking routes.

This doesn't begin to cover everything about this area, but it does indicate what the Ravenvennen is particularly important for. The area of nearly 400 hectares consists of several dozen fens surrounded by heathland and dry coniferous and deciduous forest.
