Must-have souvenirs and gifts after a visit to Venlo
We understand better than anyone that after your visit to Venlo, you won't want…
In Venlo, there is no discussion about what came first; the chicken or the egg. No, in Venlo, it's about the fries or the egg! The "frietei" is a perfectly hard-boiled egg that is embraced by a deliciously creamy curry ragout and fried to a golden brown in a breadcrumb coating at 180ºC. A unique taste sensation that you won't find anywhere else (not even in Groningen!).
Enjoy your meal!

That is, of course, the crucial question! In Venlo, you can order a "frietei" at most cafeterias and frietkraome. But if you're there, you should actually go to Automatiek Picadilly, where the "frietei" first saw the light of day in 1960!

Since 1959, Automatiek Piccadilly has been a household name in Venlo. Toon Schreurs, the owner of the family business, invented the "frietei" in the 1960s and the rest is history. For generations, the people of Venlo have been ordering a "frietje" with a "frietei," a "frietje ala" (fries with zoervleis and a special frikandel) on Kleine Beekstraat, or, as the name suggests, pulling snacks from the wall!

Learn how to make a real Venlo-style fried egg at Hotel Restaurant Valuas! During the workshop, you will learn step by step how to make this iconic snack, from the hard-boiled egg to the frying. Of course, you can enjoy your homemade fried egg afterwards!
