This expansive nature reserve of nearly 400 hectares is unique in the Netherlands and was even declared the country's second official 'Dragonfly Reserve' in 2011. With several dozen fens, it is a crucial habitat for these fascinating insects.
The landscape offers a stunning variety of glistening fens, purple heathlands, and expansive coniferous and deciduous forests. The area is part of the Maasduinen, the longest river dune belt in the Netherlands, and as a Natura 2000 area, it enjoys the highest European protection status.
The Ravenvennen are extremely suitable for active nature enthusiasts. Various walking, cycling, and horseback riding paths have been laid out. A particular highlight is the special 'dragonfly route,' which takes you along the most beautiful spots in the area and teaches you all about the many species that fly around here. An absolute must for those seeking tranquility and biodiversity.
