Click here for all the informationOn the south side of the impressive Maasduinen chain lies the area Zwart Water. This nature reserve has a unique origin; the soil is formed by ancient Maas riverbeds. The central point is the Venkoelen, a large body of water that originated from peat extraction and now serves as an oasis of tranquility for humans and animals.
Surrounding the Venkoelen are expansive forests, which on the northeast side are interspersed with idyllic, valuable grasslands. These transitions create great biodiversity. On the west side, you will also find characteristic heathland patches that complete the landscape.
Zwart Water is a beloved spot for hikers. Thanks to the two marked hiking trails, you can explore the area excellently and enjoy the variety between water, forest, and open fields. Whether you come for the silence by the water or a brisk walk through the greenery, Zwart Water offers an authentic Limburg nature experience.
