With Threads of our Dutch slavery past, an important and often overlooked part of Dutch history is brought to life. In each province, a monumental textile work measuring 35 meters long and 2.5 meters high is created, depicting the traces of the colonial slavery past. Stories from the provinces, their interconnections, and their impact on the present come together in this work.

Although history in Limburg seems less visible than in other parts of the Netherlands, there are indeed connections. For instance, a historical study was conducted by Dr. Diana Miryong Natermann from Maastricht University. Based on this, the Venlo artist Quinn Zeljak developed the design for the tapestry. She also asked rapper and spoken word artist Cetje (Cedric Kenti) to write a text, which is included in the design.

The tapestry is made not only for Limburg but especially with Limburg. Residents can actively participate in its creation at various locations in the province, including at House of Confetti. Experience with textile work forms (such as embroidery, quilting, punching, and tufting) is not necessary; everyone is welcome, and participation is free.

This activity is from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM and takes place on May 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2026, at House of Confetti. It is free to attend, and no registration is required.
